Josh Furman

Joshua Furman is a Ph.D. candidate in Modern Jewish history at the University of Maryland, specializing in American Jewish history. His dissertation, "'Jew and American in the Making': Approaches to Education and Childrearing in the American Jewish Community, 1945-1967," illuminates the ways in which American Jews blended insights from Jewish tradition as well as psychology and social science in crafting their visions of the ideal Jewish child. During the 2012-2013 academic year, Furman was a Dr. Sophie Bookhalter Fellow in Jewish Culture at the Center for Jewish History in New York City. This coming fall, he will present his research at the annual conferences of the American Academy of Religion and the Association for Jewish Studies.
