They Wanted Moshiach Then: Messianism in the Dead Sea Scrolls and Ancient Judaism

B'nai Shalom of Olney

Dates: Sunday, November 01, 2015
Time: 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Speaker: Dr. Benjamin Sommer

Learn about ancient Jewish hopes for the end of time, and anticipation of the Messiah in the Hebrew Bible and ancient Judaism. Explore how these hopes relate to the Dead Sea Scrolls and early Christianity. Questions addressed include: How do the ideas of the future differ in the Bible, rabbinic literature, and other forms of ancient Judaism? What ideas do they have in common? To what extent does the idea of the Messiah grow out of the Bible? How might they relate to debates and differences among Jews today?

In Memory of Renee and Frank Schick - Endowed by the Schick Family

Dr. Sommer will also teach a text study and discussion session on Monday morning, 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. on the topic:  "Tradition and Change in Biblical Law" sponsored by B'nai Shalom of Olney's Hazak group.  All are welcome.
