Time: 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Speaker: Dr. Benjamin Sommer

An examination of hopes for the end of time, and the arrival of the Messiah in the Bible and rabbinic Judaism, with some attention to the Dead Sea Scrolls and early Christianity. Questions addressed include: How do the ideas of the future differ in the Bible, rabbinic literature, and other forms of ancient Judaism? What ideas do they have in common? How might they relate to debates and differences among Jews today? To what extent does the idea of the Messiah grow out of the Bible?
