DUE TO THE SNOW AND AREA CLOSURES, THE SCREENING OF "JEWISH SOLDIERS IN BLUE AND GRAY". HAS BEEN  RESCHEDED.  BOTH THE FILM AND THE DISCUSSION WITH FILM DIRECTOR JONATHAN GRUBER WILL BE WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18, AT THE SAME TIME (7:30 - 9:00 pm) AND PLACE (the JCC in Rockville). WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

The remarkable history of the Civil War includes Jews who fought on both sides--7,000 for the Union and 3,000 for the Confederacy.  The war split the Jewish community as deeply as it did the nation at large: some prominent Jews cited the Torah to justify slavery, while others were leaders in the abolitionist movement or established their synagogues as stops on the Underground Railroad.

Coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, Jewish Soldiers in Blue and Gray is a first-of-its-kind film that reveals the little known struggles facing American Jews both in battle and on the home-front during the nation's deadliest war.  Narrated by Oscar-nominated screenwriter John Milius (Apocolypse Now) Jewish Soldiers in Blue and Gray explores the sacrifices Jews made as they defended both the Union and the Confederacy.
