Culinary Dreams of Bagdad: the Transformation of Iraqi Jewish Food Traditions in America

Magen David Sephardic Congregation

Dates: Sunday, November 03, 2013
Time: 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Speaker: Norma Baumel Joseph

Dr. Joseph has added an anthropological study of food, identity, and gender to her repertoire. She is studying the effects of food traditions on the identity of Iraqi Jews living in Montreal.  Her lecture emphasizes the role of traditional dishes in creating and maintaining community ties, even in an environment far from the group’s ancestral home.  A dessert reception will follow the talk.
