Topics will include:

  • Can we still believe in a just, loving, and all-powerful God who rules the world?
  • Where was God during the Holocaust?
  • Does God act in human affairs to help, reward, and punish?
  • Does God hear and answer prayer? Were the desperate prayers of 6 million Jews wasted breath?
  • Can we still be regarded "God's chosen people?"
  • Is the Messiah an idle dream?

Handouts will be distributed, giving the personal beliefs of prominent thinkers and intellectuals such as Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz, Professor Emil Fackenheim, Rabbi Louis Jacobs, Professor Norman Lamm, the Bostoner Rebbe, Chaim Potok, Cynthia Ozick and others. These handouts will be excerpts from Rabbi Haberman's newly re-published book The God I Believe In: Conversations About Judaism, which consists of interviews with fourteen leading Jewish thinkers. Discounted copies of the book will be available at the retreat for signing by Rabbi Haberman.

Cost includes one night's lodging, four kosher meals, all gratuities, and four lectures.
