Cantor Sharon Steinberg is cantor at Beth El Congregation in Alexandria, Virginia.

Music expresses text on a non-verbal level that touches the soul directly.  In a lecture-recital-discussion format, Cantor Steinberg will direct the text study of a number of our most well-known and beloved psalms -- how and why we believe they became part of our biblical canon, what they meant at the time they were written and what they mean to us today -- via an examination of how they have been expressed musically by a variety of composers from different eras and cultures.
