Gideon Amir received his Master’s degree in Judaic Studies from Baltimore Hebrew University.
This year we will study the (biblical) history of Israel and Judah from the time of Solomon, to the split of the monarchary into a Northern Kingdom (Israel) and Southern Kingdom (Judah), until Israel is captured by Assyria (and many of its people are exiled) and Judah is later captured by Babylon, the (first) Temple is destroyed, and the Judeans are exiled to Babylon.
We will follow the text of Kings I and II chapter by chapter. We will also compare the text with other sources such as: Chronicles, the Septuagint, and others. One area of interest will be whether there is any archaeological evidence to the stories we read. Another area of interest will be to follow the way the biblical historian analyzes events and the causes for these events.
Classes will be held Sundays, October 14, 2012 – June 23, 2013:
There will be 26 classes in this series. Please note that classes will not be held on the following dates: November 25, December 23, December 30, January 20, February 17, February 24, March 24, March 31, May 12, May 26, and June 16.
